Lately, the debate on the prevalence of casting couch in the film industry has heated up like never before. A number of actresses have come out sharing their stories of sexual harassment in exchange of getting roles in films or even getting ditched on work front despite promises after being used physically.
A number of actress including Radhika Apte from Bollywood and Sri Reddy and Sandhya Naidu from Tollywood have shared their horrific stories of harassment. Sri Reddy went a few steps ahead of others, stripping on street in front of Movie Artistes Association’s office at Film Nagar in Hyderabad. Bollywood’s senior choreographer Saroj Khan also presented her views on casting couch in front of media after which she faced a huge backlash on social media and later apologized for her remarks.
Now, another renowned face from the Hindi entertainment industry has spoken up about casting couch. Comedian-actor Krushna Abhishek, while promoting his upcoming film ‘Sharma Ji Ki Lag Gayi’ said a number of things about casting couch. Krushna said that there is nothing like casting couch in the film industry, instead, it is all about blackmailing. He said that girls themselves get involved in goof-ups and then accuse others of misusing them.
Talking about casting couch in Bollywood, Krushna said:
I do not agree with Saroj Khan’s point of view on casting couch. But you can’t blame all politicians if one is wrong. I do not understand why the entire community is blamed for mistake by one of its members. There is no such thing as casting couch here, it is all blackmailing. Girls first get involved in goof ups and then accuse others of misusing them.
Krushna further added:
This is not correct (saying that casting couch is prevalent in Bollywood). If this is correct then casting couch exists in colleges also. If you go to Reclamation Bandra area, you will see a number of cars standing. And you don’t know what all is going on inside these cars! But after this, if a girl says that the man has done something wrong with her, then what wrong has he done?
According to Krushna, the existence of casting couch is the least in film industry; however, it is repeatedly targeted. He also said that casting couch exists more in the corporate world. Do you agree with Krushna Abhishek? Share your views with us in the comments section!
