He has been giving an awesome performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and now India’s Test captain Virat Kohli has now been named as the ‘Third Most Marketable Sportsperson’ in the latest issue of ‘SportsPro’ magazine.

Virat ranks even higher than superstar footballer Lionel Messi and world’s No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic in the Sports Pro survey.

He is ranked only behind NBA MVP Stephen Curry and Juventus’ footballer Paul Pogba.

The only other Indian sports personality on the list is tennis sensation Sania Mirza who is ranked 43rd.

Incidentally, Kohli is not the first Indian to make it to the top 10 of the SportsPro list.

Back in 2010, India’s ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was ranked 6th on the ‘Most Marketable’ list of 2010, 10th a year later and ranked 16 in 2012.

Dhoni has though failed to make it to the list this year.

SportsPro is a London-based European sports magazine which does extensive research on sports. Their criteria for ranking athletes from across the world is based on the star’s marketing potential over the period of three-year period from season-starting summer.

Their inaugural feature of the magazine had come out in 2010 with NBA star LeBron James topping the list.
