Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won the Australian Open Super Series after defeating Olympic champion Chen Long.
At the beginning of the match both the contestants played evenly resorting to an attacking strategy in the game. However, by the time of break, Srikanth’s fiery smashes and deceptive shots helped him attain a lead of 11-9.
When the game resumed, Long gained the lead with three points and taking the score to 12-11 but the Indian shuttler won the game at 22-20, taking a lead of 1-0 in 23 minutes.
The 24-year-old badminton champion of India started the next game with a lead of 6-2, taking it to 11-9 before the short break. But this time, Long could not launch a comeback. Srikanth then concluded the game at 21-16 to win the title.
This is his second title victory in a week’s time for Srikanth who won the Indonesian Open Super Series Premier last Sunday.
Prior to Indonesian Open, he had also made an entry into the finals of Singapore Open in the month of April and became fifth player in the world and first Indian male shuttler to compete in finals of three consecutive Super Series.
