Indian politicians are well-known for their retarded beliefs. Every other day, a politician gives a senseless remark on women or on the society, which makes us boil with anger. A similar thing happened on Monday, when Kerala Congress Chief, M M Hassan, gave his wisdom on menstruation and called it “impure”.
This insensitive and disrespectful comment came while he was addressing a camp for journalism students, organized by the State Youth Welfare Board.
During his debate, he was questioned, “Why menstruating women are not allowed to enter the Sabarimala hill shrine? Sabarimala is a hill temple of Lord Ayyappa. His reply was utterly unprogressive,
Menstruation period marks days of impurity, women should not enter temples during that period and stay at home.
Menstruation is a natural and biological process, it certainly has no relation with a woman’s character. A woman is naturally subjected to monthly bleeding, and we must understand the sensitivity of this situation, and stop disgracing them.
In retaliation, a woman present at the camp, gave a befitting reply to the Kerala minister. She said, “If menstrual blood is impure, the same blood is flowing through your veins.”
Seeing the backlash, the minister rephrased his statement, which shows that his opinion was fear-based,
I was referring to the prevailing situation at the Sabarimala temple where women of menstruating age are denied entry. I was just referring to the prevailing custom at the temple. I am not an authority to make comments on such things. My reaction was distorted,’
