Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto has called up Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on July 14 and expressed his support for the people of Kashmir.
He said: “Kashmir lives in Pakistan’s DNA.”
Bilawal said that PPP would continue to support the people of Kashmir and condemned what he called “violence of the Indian army on unarmed Kashmiri people.”
“He [Mr. Bhutto] expressed deep concern over the abject human rights violation in Kashmir and condemned the killings of dozens of Kashmiris and injuries to hundreds of civilians,” said the Mirwaiz.
“Besides being a party to the dispute, it’s incumbent upon Pakistan to side with the people of Kashmir on moral grounds,” said the Mirwaiz.
Bhutto told the Mirwaiz that his party and the “entire Pakistan stands with them in these difficult times”.
The Hurriyat chairman also welcomed Pakistan’s move to knock at the doors of the United Nations. “There is need for more diplomatic efforts. The U.N., whose representatives are in J&K, can’t be a silent spectator. The world community needs to wake up to reality of Kashmir,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz has urged the Centre and the state to lift curbs and “allow separatists to meet the families of victims”.
