Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Captain Mandeep Singh, a Kargil War martyr has revealed that she has received hundreds of threats on social media for her viral post supporting Ramjas college.
Kaur, who is 20 years old, in her post had spoken against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or ABVP, following the violence at Delhi University’s (DU) Ramjas College on February 22.
In a recent interview with NDTV, Kaur said that not only is she being called an “anti-national” for her post, but many are even threatening her with rape and violence.
“I’ve been getting a lot of threats on social media. When you open the profile picture that I changed, you keep seeing there are people threatening me and calling me an anti-nationalist. I think it’s very scary when people threaten you with violence or with rape.”
Kaur even mentioned a particular comment, where the man called “Rahul” went to the extent of giving a detailed explanation as to how he would like to rape her.

A student of DU’s Lady Shri Ram College, Kaur had taken to Facebook and shown support to Ramjas college by posting a picture of her holding a 140-word placard that read,
Advertisement“I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP”.
Her post, had gone viral overnight and though she got thousand of messages of solidarity, there was also a torrent of ugly abuse and criticism accompanying those messages.
Her post since then has shared over 3,000 times and received more than 1,000 comments.
After speaking publicly about the threats, Kaur even took to Twitter and slammed people who are abusing her for taking advantage of the fact that she is a “martyr’s daughter” and said she has own identity and people can just call her Gurmehar.
