Filmmaker Karan Johar is the favorite child of controversy, He says something and gets trolled in a few seconds. Remember when he got trolled for wearing red shades? Karan never minces his words, have not you seen that in his latest Koffee with Karan season? And it results in the alleged attack on the sentiments of many. Recently, Karan Johar was trolled on social media with netizens accusing him of allegedly “insulting” the culture and the traditional headgears of the people of the Northeast.
Karan Johar uploaded a video clip on his Instagram profile on November 10, shot during India’s Got Talent TV show, where he and actress-politician Kirron Kher along with actress Malaika Arora are co-judges. He posted a video in which he was talking to Kirron Kher about the traditional headgear from Assam worn by Kirron.
The video shared by Karan Johar on Instagram shows Kirron Kher wearing a spiked bamboo Arunachalee hat and the Bollywood director exclaiming, “oh my god, what is that on your head?” Kirron explained that the headgear is the traditional Japi from Assam. Karan was laughing and said that he has no guts to wear it.
Netizens did not take it in a good way and started bombarding Karan Johar’s post with comments. They trolled him for allegedly insulting the tradition of the northeast. The agitated Instagram users said that Japi from Assam is not just a headgear, but an emotion.
The users were angry and made Karan realize that their culture is precious to them and it might not be luxurious, but it is beautiful.
The users allegedly attacked Karan for no respect regarding the national tradition. Along with Karan, they also accused Kirron Kher of laughing along.
One of the users also mentioned prime minister Narendra Modi and said that even he wears this traditional headgear when in the northeast, then why can’t Karan wear it?
Out of the negative comments, some also hinted that it was just in a fun spirit and there was nothing intentional.
It could be a possibility that the director did not know about the emotional connection and unintentionally made fun of the headgear, but people did get hurt and blamed him for the insensitivity. What do you think about it? Was it Karan’s fault or it was not a big deal?
