February 4 turned out to be a sad day for not only a widowed mother and a young sister, but for the entire nation as well. In an unprovoked cross-border shelling by the Pakistani army, a young Indian army officer, along with three soldiers, got martyred along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tarkundi and Sunderbani areas of Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Captain Kapil Kundu, who is from Ransika village of Gurugram district, Haryana, was martyred just short of his 23rd birthday.
The unprovoked firing from the neighboring country included small arms, automatics, mortars and missiles from 1530 hours in BG sector along the Line of Control (LoC). Official sources told news agency GNS that Pakistani army violated ceasefire and opened fire at 15 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) posts at Bhimber Gali sector resulting in the killing of four army men, including an officer.

The martyred jawans who have been identified along with Captain Kapil Kundu were 42-year-old Havildar Roshan Lal, a resident of Samba district, 27-year-old Riflemen Ramavatar from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and Rifleman Subham Singh (23) from J&K’s Kathua district.

The brave officer also left a chilling video, which was probably his last, showing his cheerful nature.
His Facebook status is another thing that will give us something to ponder upon.

The status “Life should be big instead of being long”, indeed says a lot about this young officer and his determination in life.

The status shared by Captain Kapil Kundu makes us remember something from the film ‘Anand’, in which Rajesh Khanna says something to Amitabh Bachchan:
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Choudary, has ordered closure of all schools close to the borders. He said that “all 84 schools located in 0-5KM along LoC from Sunderbani to Manjakote shall remain closed for next 3 days.”
Your sacrifice for the motherland will not go down in vain. RIP, brave hearts.
