Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika controversy is trending for all the wrong reasons. With each passing day, the film gets into a different headline. But what can one expect, when it involves drama ‘queen’ Kangana Ranaut? In a fresh twist of events, Sonu Sood has walked out of the project, giving her another reason to be accused of overshadowing her directors and having spats with her co-actors. Now, Simran writer, Apurva Asrani, has taken a sly dig at the actress, further fueling the fire.
Kangana, who plays the lead in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, has been shooting vigorously for her role! She has done all the stunts for the historical herself.

Her woes started when she suffered a nasty gash last year during a sword-fighting scene. Knowing Kangana, she recovered from it soon.

However, she couldn’t hold her thoughts when Sonu Sood quit Manikarnika project. She said that he’s “unable to work under a woman director”. This is what she said:
“He refused to meet me. He refused to work under a woman director. Even though the team suggested that they have full faith in me, Sonu had neither dates nor faith.”
In the film, Sonu Sood was playing Sadashivrao Bhau, the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army. He had already shot some parts before quitting.
Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika controversy started when it emerged that she’s not only playing the main lead but also directing the project.
In response to Kangana‘s allegations, Sonu responded back saying, “The gender of the director is not the issue, competence is.”
And adding fire to the whole Manikarnika controversy, screenwriter Apurva Asrani has lashed out at Ranaut and has described it as ‘the worst form of hara-kiri’.
In the past (2017) too, Apurva had accused Kangana of discrediting him of his creative liberties for the Simran script.
Once again, Apurva Asrani, has without taking names directly, launched an indirect social war after Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika controversy.

A star hijacking a film & running down the hard work of crew member/s is the worst form of hara-kiri there is. When affected filmmakers cannot control this & instead put on a facade of a ‘dignified silence’, they allow a monstrous ego to go on a rampage & eventually kill the film

After his tweet, a user asked “What choice do the directors have with such stars?” To this, the writer responded by saying:
Zero tolerance. From day one. If the actor refuses to abide by the contract, threaten/get legal intervention. I know many directors who have replaced tantrum throwing stars early on. And the studios have supported the courage & conviction of the maker.

When another user pointed out that “A director doesn’t have much choice if a producer stops working”, he further wrote:
If someone else is directing your film & you are unable to stop him/her, then just quit! Before your self esteem is eroded. Unless ofcourse you are greedy for a commercial ‘hit’ & are prepared to sacrifice your team. I think in the current hijacked film the director has bowed out

In one of the tweets, when the Twitter user said that “She has someone backing her”, Apurva gave this reply:
Its not that. I think the star disowning a film is what a producer fears. There is patchwork, dubbing & promotions to complete, so the producer is held by his/her balls till the nth moment. It is an abusive relationship. But if they don’t stand up to it, the film will get abused.

Interestingly, while Apurva is busy taking a jibe at Kangana, Simran‘s producer Kamal Jain has spoken in her favor!
Jain said, “Once the scenes were written, we approached Kangana for additional dates. But Krish had moved on to his next project. We realised she would be the best person to take over. Hence, there is no hijacking of the project.”
Meanwhile, Kangana just graced the front cover of the September issue of Vogue Wedding Book 2018:
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi will release on April 27, 2019.
