Badminton player Saina Nehwal has been in the news currently for her sequence of tweets in which she took a jibe at the Commonwealth Games Federation for refusing the access to her father Harvir Singh Nehwal at the Gold Coast Games Village.

Saina lashed out at the Federation on Twitter saying she was surprised that her father got a confirmation to be the team official when they started for the Commonwealth Games 2018 from India. She paid the whole amount for his confirmation as well. But when they came to the games village, his name was cut from the team official category list.

Furthermore, he was not allowed to stay with her or anywhere inside the Games Village. The Indian Olympic Federation informed her that her father’s name is there on the list of the extra officials accredited but the payment of the accreditation does not include a bed at the Commonwealth Games Village.

Ace Indian shuttler was furious that his father won’t be able to see her matches and why she wasn’t informed earlier. She wrote a letter to the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) stating that she tried to get in touch with them but there was no response from the other side. She threatened to not play the matches if his accreditation was not cleared as an official.

Indian Badminton doubles specialist Jwala Gutta indirectly hit out at tweets by Saina Nehwal. She went on to Twitter saying her family has always paid for tickets and stayed in hotels during her matches.

Furthermore, she questioned the negligence in not making prior plans and bookings for the games. Later she asked if it is ethically correct for a player to threaten to not play a match on personal terms.

However, the IOA was forced to get official accreditation of Saina’s father so that she plays her matches. To the IOA’s quick humble gestures, Saina tweeted a thank you note for IOA saying that they were helpful in sorting out her father’s accreditation on such short notice and it will be great to play the matches ahead. She regretted the troubles caused to the people.
