Every child who grew up in the ’90s must have watched the most popular jodi of Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. Bollywood’s Mr. perfectionist and Bollywood’s comic queen Juhi Chawla featured together in many films. Juhi’s charming smile and childlike innocence perfectly matched with Aamir’s boy-next-door looks and his quirky sense of humor. This led to the two of them becoming one of the most sought-after jodi’s of that era.
We all witnessed their chemistry in movies like Tum Mere Ho and Love Love Love. The duo earned good reviews and their films turned out to be super hits at the box office. One can never forget that kissing scene from the song ‘Akele Hain To Kya Ghum Hai’ from their blockbuster success ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’.
They became the closest of friends in Bollywood and the actress once confessed that she shared a strong bond with Aamir and he was like a buddy to her. Despite sharing a great rapport, they were never romantically involved!
The duo would fight over the stupidest of things as all best friends do, and as always, would make up almost instantly. Their fights became almost like a ritual on the sets of their movies. Juhi once said that Aamir was her “4 AM buddy!”
Aamir and I used to fight like kids on sets. He would tease me, play pranks on me, we have seen him play pranks on other heroines, it was such a fun time. There was an ease, I always thought that if there was one person I can call when in trouble it was Aamir. He was kind of 4am.
However, one incident changed it all and turned their perfect friendship into a silly feudal relationship. During the shoot of their popular movie ‘Ishq’, Aamir played yet another prank on Juhi, but this time, their fights took a serious and ugly turn.
Aamir suddenly told Juhi that he knew astrology and she should show her hand. When she did so, Aamir spat on her palms and ran. This left Juhi red-faced in front of the entire crew. That must have been the end of it all, because after this incident, the two co-stars didn’t talk for almost 5-6 years.
Both of them assumed that they didn’t want to talk to each other and it cost them half a decade of their friendship and many prospective hit movies like Raja Hindustani, which Juhi rejected due to their growing animosity.
One never knew that quarrels could distance friends so much, that they couldn’t stand the sight of each other. However, after a few years, Juhi ended the miff and spoke to Aamir first, after which they became friends again. Clearing the air she said:
During the shoot of Ishq, Aamir and I fought three to four times. He made me cry with his pranks, and after our last fight I got really mad at him and I didn’t turn up for shoot the next day, which made him very angry. Both of us felt that we are angry with each other, we assumed that now we won’t talk to each other ever. Obviously, we didn’t know what was going on in our head. Had I known that this wasn’t true and I was just assuming, I would have gone and given him a hug. Why break our friendship?
Even though this incident left a dent in their friendship, the ever-optimistic Juhi revealed a very important lesson she learnt from it:
When you are good friends and you fight, go and make up immediately otherwise the communication gap can lead to misunderstandings. When you speak, misunderstanding goes away in a minute. You have to just extend your hand towards the other person and he or she would be happy to come back.
We all loved Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla’s Jodi, didn’t we? We hope to see them on-screen again someday!
