In another killing of media persons in India, a journalist working with a local television news channel was brutally beaten to death while covering a clash at Mandai in West Tripura on Wednesday.

Shantanu Bhowmik, a reporter with the local ‘Dinraat’ news channel, was killed while covering the clash between the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tripura Rajaer Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (TRUGP) in West Tripura.

According to various sources, Bhowmick was covering the agitation and road blockade by the members of IPFT when he was attacked.

It is reportedly said that even as the police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd, Bhowmik was attacked by the mob. According to reports, the incident took place at about 12.30 pm. Bhowmik’s body was later found with serious injuries by the police from behind the local stadium. He was rushed to Agartala Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

While many reacted to the incident with strong condemnation, massive political blame game erupted between Left and Right.

This is how the ruling CPI(M) and the local BJP reacted to the incident.

Many took to twitter to condemned the brutal killing of yet another journalist in the country.

According to Tripura DIG Arindam Nath, four IPFT members have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Tripura Journalists’ Union (TJU) has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.
