While the nation is discussing the horrific ordeal in which the daughter of an IAS officer in Chandigarh was allegedly stalked by the son of the state BJP president, another shameful incident happened in the heart of New Delhi – this time with a female journalist.

A 29-year-old senior journalist with a television channel was allegedly groped an unidentified person at a Youth Congress rally on Thursday afternoon.

She was covering the rally, which was organized at Jantar Mantar and was attended by senior Congress leaders Raj Babbar and Ahmed Patel.

According to the journalist, she was groped by an unidentified person from behind when she was following Babbar and Patel for a byte.

She has alleged that she asked the Youth Congress for immediate action but they said “they can’t do anything about it because of the crowd”.

She filed an FIR. The police said that they have registered a case under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Youth Congress was organizing a protest against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) called ‘Bharat Bachao Andolan’. One of the major agendas of the protest was, ironically, women’s safety.

Twitterati reacted furiously to the incident. Some of them also pointed out that the media giving less importance to this incident than how they gave to the incident of stalking in the Chandigarh episode.

Be it in a BJP-ruled state or at a Congress rally, a woman must always be respected. One only hopes that those who poured their their outrage over the shameful incident allegedly involving the BJP leader’s son will do the same in this case as well.
