Bernd Hosselin, the former Jet Airways pilot who was accused of making “racist” comments during a Chandigarh-Mumbai flight, has now sent a defamation notice to cricketer Harbhajan Singh and his friends Pooja Gujaral and Jatinder Singh Shah. The former pilot has also sent a defamation notice to his former employer, Jet Airways.
The incident came to light on April 26, when the cricketer posted tweets accusing Hosselin of making “racist” comments and assaulting a woman, besides abusing Harbhajan’s physically challenged fellow friend on a Chandigarh-Mumbai flight. While Pooja Gujral and Jatindr Singh Shah brought Shah’s personal wheelchair inside the aircraft, a practice that is against the DGCA norms, Hosselin asked Gujral to remove his wheelchair. The entire discussion resulted in a heated argument. Hosselin’s actions caused his suspension and removal as an employee from Jet Airways.
The cricketer termed the incident as disgraceful. He slammed the pilot accusing him of racial slurs,
So-called this Bernd Hoesslin a pilot with @jetairways called my fellow Indian (u bloody Indian get out of my flight) while he is earning here. Not only was he a racist, but physically assaulted a lady and abused a physically challenged man.
After the series of tweets, Jet Airways took a strict decision and terminated the pilot’s employment. According to Hosselin’s lawyer, Shukla, Hosselin has sent a notice to Jet Airways for sacking him. Hosselin has mentioned that he was not at fault and was just following the DGCA norms.
“Despite repeated assurances from their senior officials of Jet Airways of not doing anything wrong, and acting in accordance with their and DGCA rules,” the lawyer quoted.
