JCO, Mohammed Azmal Haque, had served in the Army for 30 years and since then has settled in his home state of Assam. Foreigner’s Tribunal of the state has now asked him to prove his nationality and has claimed that the person is an illegal immigrant.

Haque has claimed that he was born in Kamrup district of Assam in 1968 and that his mother’s name features in the 1951 National Register of Citizens. However, the tribunal has tagged him as a doubtful voter and has said that he illegally settled in Assam in 1971.

Haque was appointed as the JCO by the President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam.

The Eastern Command of the Indian Army had contacted Haque and has assured him of all possible assistance.
