Article 370 of the Indian Constitution contains ‘temporary provisions’ that provides autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir was empowered to recommend the articles of the Indian Constitution that should be included or not in the Article 370 altogether. However, all the provisions made under the Article 370 grant ‘special’ status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir on a temporary basis.
Apparently, a chaotic tension has spread over the Article in Jammu & Kashmir after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that Article 35A and Article 370 are temporary laws that can be removed from constitution without even voting in the Parliament.
In retaliation to Swamy’s comments, senior National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Javed Rana has sparked a controversy after his derogatory comments against the Indian flag. While addressing the crowd during his rally, the Medhar MLA was heard saying that the Indian national flag will have no presence in the Kashmir Valley if the government tries to change or do away with the Article 35A and Article 370 that provide special autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to him, these two Articles bridge the gap between the Indian nation and the military-hit state. Furthermore, Javed Rana also threatened disastrous consequences if any actions will be taken to break this ‘bridge’.
MLA Javed Rana said on Article 370 while threatening the Indian flag:
“Through the media, I want to request our Prime Minister that if they scrap Articles 35A or Article 370 then India’s flag won’t be unfurled here. I want to say that if they tinker with Article 370 or if they try to modify Article 370 then India’s flag will have no presence here. It is only because of Article 370 that we are connected to this country. If they scrap Article 370, our relation automatically ends.”
Evidently, the special autonomy provided to Jammu and Kashmir by both articles has been a matter of great debate for the Indian nation ever since its inception in 1954 on ‘Presidential Order’. While BJP has favoured in scrapping the Article on many occasions, many parties from the northern state have warned against modifications in the Articles.
Seemingly, this debate has grabbed the attention of the Twitterati such that they have responded with outrageous messages while slamming MLA Javed Rana on his controversial words against the Indian flag.
Check out some of the responses:
Article (not section) 370 is a temporary provision of the Constitution. Article 35A is sub-judice.
Such open secessionist threats by recognised political parties is unacceptable.

Moreover, state Congress President and former minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir has also expressed his discontent on the controversy on rotating around Article 370 and Article 35A, says that ‘no power on earth can remove both these Articles in Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, in an unexpected turn of events, BJP has demanded NC MLA Javed Rana’s resignation over his comment against Indian flag.
