Soon after completing his shoots for Thugs of Hindostan, actor Aamir Khan will join the makers of the 1,000 crore budget movie Mahabharata. Reports suggest that this movie is going to be one of the most expensive films to be ever made in the Bollywood industry. The film will be co-produced by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani.
Though there is no official announcement, the buzz is that the Mahabharata franchise would be a series that could span across 3-5 parts. The production is geared to take on the scale of HBO’s The Game of Thrones and the Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Reports further suggest that services of international writers and multiple directors would be taken so as to enhance the appeal of the movie. The first film of the series will be directed by Advait Chandan who made his debut into direction with Aamir Khan’s ‘Secret Superstar’. It is also said that Aamit himself will direct one of these films.
Aamir Khan is deeply invested in the magnum opus and even turned down Mahesh Mathai’s biopic on cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma, for its sake, in keeping with his streak of perfectionism.
There are rumours that Aamir Khan had expressed his fondness for Karna’s character but he afterall might play Lord Krishna in the grand magnum opus.
Soon after the news of Aamir playing role of Lord Krishna started doing rounds, French political writer and journalist François Gautier tweeted:
Why should @AamirKhan, a Muslim, play in most ancient & sacred of Hindu epics, the Mahabharata? Is @BJP4India Govt of @narendramodi going to be like the @INCIndia & just stand by in name of secularism??? Would Muslims allow a Hindu to play life of Mohamed?https://t.co/fC7bvbHkZE

Gautier’s remarks quickly irked lyricist and author Javed Akhtar, who tweeted:
You scoundrel, have you not seen peter brooks production of this great epic Mahabharsta in France . I would like to know which foreign agency is paying you to spread this kind of perverse and poisonous thoughts in our country

You ignorant unfortunate imbecile, obviously you know nothing about our Indian traditions and culture . Do you know who were Ras khan bullay shah Waris shah, ,Baba Farid Nazeer Akbarabadi , Nizir Banarasi , Bismillah khan . You are just a frog in the stinking well of communalism

Twitterati too came out with their own views:
Unfortunately he is not a threat to indians but islamist like Aamir Khan and and you are.

Responsible human being like he mocked hinduism without understanding it in PK?

But I seriously wish that Aamir delays his Mahabharat film dream by a few years, till India becomes a more inclusive society — again, like the old days.

yes sir I agree it doesn’t and shouldn’t mttr in creative arts but i on a personal lvl can only request amir not to work on this project coz the religious emotions will be used for political gains by ppl across the spectrum of political ideology and will endup creating disharmony

people should boycott this movie in the initial stages only.

It’s very painful to see that amir khan will be the hero in the movie which is being produced by Mukesh Ambani….
What can PM Modi do about it?
