Japan has requested for 15,000 trained nurses from Manipur to work in their country. Over the time, there has been an increase in demand of nurses from the state in South East Asian countries.

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said,”This is because of the quality of our nurses who serve the patients with a kind and sympathetic heart is widely appreciated.”

Speaking at the event to celebrate International Nurses Day, Ibobi said that he will look into the matter of reintroducing Uniform Allowance and Risk Allowance to the nurses.

Health and Family Welfare Minister D K Korungthang further appealed to the nurses not to discriminate the patients on the grounds of caste, creed, rural, urban or hill and valley.

International Nurses Day is celebrated every year all over the world on May 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the modern nursing founder Florence Nightingale.
