From being a tea vendor to becoming the Prime Minister of the largest democracy in the world, Narendra Modi’s success story that can inspire each one of us. There’s another story but somewhat different.
Who would be unaware of the success story of our very own Prime Minister Narendra Modi who apart from his political excellence is also known for riding the ladder of success from being a tea-vendor to what he is today. His story is a great example of no work is small or big. Inspired by the same thought but quite dissimilar from the story is the success story of a man who went on to become a tea seller from being an employee of ISRO is unique as well as inspiring.
Ram Attar Kori, or fondly called Rambhai Kori, once used to work at ISRO now sells tea outside the campus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad. He had arrived in Ahmadabad in 1962 with his family and did his schooling there. After his schooling, he joined a technical diploma but had to leave it midway because of family issues.
Later, he started working at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as an electrician for a few years but then quit that job. He had wanted to start some business of his own for a very long time but couldn’t find any options. Then one day, he came to IIM-A to buy beedis (smoke) for his relative. At that time, the area around the institute did not even have a motorable road. Near the institute was a pan shop and vendor who sold snacks but no tea stall.
At that time, he decided to start a tea stall for the students of IIM-A. And since more than 50 years now, Rambhai Kori is selling tea, cigarettes, omelettes and buns outside one of the most prestigious management colleges in India. A few years after he started his stall, when the institute made a boundary of walls around the campus, a small window was left unbricked only for Rambhai to be able to sell tea to those inside the campus.
He became so popular for quitting his job at ISRO and starting a tea stall thereafter that students of IIM-A even did a case paper on his business model. And during the research presentation of that project, Rambhai even got a chance to sit in the chair of IIM-A’s professor.
Don’t you think Rambhai Kori’s story of entrepreneurship is beautiful. Do share your views in the comments section!
