Queen Elizabeth II is in crosshairs of Islamic State jihadists, reports the Daily Mail. According to the British tabloid, an assassination plot is being orchestrated from Syria by Islamic State commanders.
The Mail claimed that jihadists are planning to target an area in central London next weekend during the 70th anniversary of VJ Day – Victory over Japan. Thousands, including the Queen, are expected to attend the event.
The report claims that Prince Charles, who will be attending the ceremony with the Queen, is identified in intelligence reports as another possible target.
A device similar to that used in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing which killed three people and injured more than 260 might be used in this attack, reports the Mail.
August 15 is celebrated as Victory over Japan Day. Prime Minister David Cameron, assorted dignitaries, more than 1,000 veterans of the Far East campaign and their families, and serving members of the Armed Forces will be joining the victory celebrations.
Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the reported threat.
