Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) on Sunday announced their team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura, but what came as a surprise was that former captain of the team Irfan Pathan was not just sacked as the captain but was altogether dropped from the team itself. Pathan was replaced by Deepak Hooda as the new captain of the Baroda team.

However, Republic TV has a different take on it. As per their report, Irfan Pathan was asked to pick a particular spinner for Baroda’s match against Andhra, which Pathan refused to consider on the ground that a green wicket would not be good for spinners. The report alleges that it was a plan to finish the career of the spinner and Pathan refused to be part of it.

Pathan’s refusal irked the selectors. In their next meeting, they replaced Pathan with Hooda as the captain of the Baroda team to send across a chilling message that those who do not listen to the selectors diktat would meet a similar fate.

On being asked, Pathan simply refused to divulge anything about him being sacked from the team. He only hinted at by saying:

Performance isn’t the issue. Fitness isn’t an issue. Discipline isn’t an issue. The reason you can find out from BCA.
