With the launch of the Indian Premier League in 2008, Indian cricket fans got another exciting way to watch their favourite players coming together to play for the winning trophy. From its very inception, IPL has become one of the most successful tournaments launched by T20 League giving the young players a chance to show their cricketing skills. The IPL also witnessed the coming has also been instrumental in bringing stars from the cricketing and Bollywood world together. However time and again, the IPL has had its share of controversies. Be it the official members or the players, there have been all kinds of controversies in the IPL. But apparently, the biggest of them are the IPL betting controversies that involved some of the renowned names in the tournament.

1. Arbaaz Khan
Salman Khan’s brother and renowned Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan has also become the target of another IPL betting controversy. The actor was summoned by the Thane police due to his involvement in IPL 2018 betting scandal alongside high-profile rookie Sonu Jalan. The rookie has alleged that the Bollywood celebrity is in debt of Rs 28 crore with him after the actor placed his bets on the IPL 2018 match.
2. Gurunath Meiyappan
Chennai Super Kings’ former team principal Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested by the Police in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing controversy. According to reports, he was involved in heavy betting and trading of confidential information to the rookies. After his arrest, he stepped down from his position and Jagmohan Dalmiya was appointed as the interim President of CSK. Sadly, Chennai Super Kings was banned from playing the IPL tournament for two years from 2013.
3. Vindu Dara Singh
Incidentally, the betting controversy surfaced in the Indian Premier League during its sixth season in 2013. After a thorough investigation into the spot-fixing case, famous Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh was arrested by the Mumbai police for his alleged links with the bookies involved in the IPL betting scandal.
The ace cricketer was playing with the Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2013. He was arrested by the police from his friend’s house for being involved in the spot-fixing case. Later, he was banned from all forms of cricket by the BCCI.
5. Ankeet Chavan
Apparently, this young cricketer was also playing for Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2013 and was later arrested alongside Sreesanth in the same spot-fixing scandal in IPL. Furthermore, Ankeet Chavan was also banned from playing cricket in the IPL by the BCCI.
6. Ajit Chandila
The off-spin bowler of the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2013, Ajit Chandila was also arrested by the Mumbai Police in the spot-fixing scandal in his IPL match. He was also given a life-ban from playing any form of cricket by the BCCI.
7. Raj Kundra
Actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband and Rajasthan Royals co-owner raj Kundra was also allegedly involved in the 2013 IPL betting controversy. He was questioned by the Delhi police in regarding his involvement in illegal betting during the IPL match. Later, Raj Kundra confessed of taking help of a rookie friend in placing the bets on his IPL team. Afterwards, his team Rajasthan Royals was also banned with CSK for two years from playing in the IPL championship.
