351 players took part in the IPL 2017 auction, held in Bangalore. There were 122 international players, and 6 from associate nations i.e. 1 from UAE and 5 from Afghanistan. The number was initially huge i.e. 799, but, was later reduced.
England’s all-rounder, Ben Stokes, was sold as the most expensive player at the auction. He was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants for Rs 14.50 crores.
Pune’s team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils during the bidding of Ben Stokes.
The war during the auction was intense, but, players like Irfan Pathan (Base price INR 50 lakhs), Ishant Sharma (Base price INR 2 crores), Cheteshwar Pujara (Base price INR 50 lakhs) and top-ranked bowler Imran Tahir (Base price INR 50 lakhs) remained unsold.
