According to ‘The Indian Express‘, a senior Indian Olympic Association (IOA) members has said that India might throw in their hat to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) as a replacement to Durban.
India, who hosted the 2010 edition of CWG in Delhi, will bid for hosting rights if the Indian Government lends its support.
Durban was stripped of its rights to host the quadrennial event on March 13, after the South African government failed to give financial guarantees for the event.
Now with Durban out of the running, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has begun searching for the replacement host city and has invited bids for the same.
Talking about this invitation, Rajeev Mehta, IOA Secretary general, said that the members of IOA are discussing the issue and if they are able to get support from the Indian government, they will consider the possibility of bidding for the 2022 Games.
