LPG consumers are covered by an insurance amounting to a total of at least Rs.21 lakhs. You didn’t know that, right?
In case of a mishap caused by an LPG cylinder, the gas company from which the cylinder was bought is liable to pay an insurance separately for injury, death, loss of property and event.
A customer is automatically insured from the day of buying the cylinder.
The insurance amount varies from company to company, but the three gas companies of the country, namely Indane of Indian Oil, Bharat Gas of Bharat Petroleum and HP Gas of Hindustan Petroleum, have a Public Liability Policy drawn on the United Insurance Company Ltd. for the same.
This is what the official website of Indane declares:
>>Personal accident cover of Rs.5,00,000/- per person per event in case of death.
>>Covers medical expenses of Rs.15 lakhs per event, maximum Rs.1, 00,000/- per person. Immediate relief upto Rs. 25,000/- per person.
>>Property damage maximum Rs.1, 00,000/- per event at authorised customer’s registered premises.
And this is on Bharat Gas website:
HPCL has uploaded the United India Insurance Co. agreement.
To avail such an insurance the aggrieved party must inform the gas agency within 30 minutes of the incident. The Agency then passes the information to the gas company, which then despatches a squad to examine the accident spot.
