The suspect of the murder of the 24-year-old Infosys employee, Swathi S, has been arrested. He is also a techie from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.
Swathi was waiting for her train at Nungambakkam railway station when the suspect, 24-year-old Ramkumar, approached her. Following a heated argument, he attacked her with a sickle he was carrying in a bag.
The suspect Ramkumar tried to kill himself when police picked him up from his house.
“When the Police arrived he tried to cut his throat with a blade. He was immediately taken to hospital and is under treatment. He is fine and would recover, though he is not fit to travel now,” Chennai City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran said .
He added that Ramkumar did not have any accomplices in the crime.
The police said Ram Kumar was infatuated with her and stalked her for months. When Swathi refused to go along with him, he allegedly killed her.
The daylight murder of Swathi created furor over the gruesome murder and also, over the apathy of people who witnessed the crime.
