Indians Loose Their Cool After A Chinese Chef Sold Our Very Own ‘Bhaturas’ As ‘Scallion Bubble Pancakes’

Published on 7 February, 2018 at 4:02 pm By

Thanks to the Internet, we are able to get a sense of different cuisines from all over the world and also try them as and when we travel. Not only do we get to know about new dishes and places to try them while we sit thousands of miles away, but we also get to share our own versions with different people and cultures. Likewise in India, people are particularly fond of deep-fried street food, be it Gol Gappe, Kachori, Papri Chaat, Samosas. But what we Indians simply can’t ever resist is our all-time favourite Chole Bhature! A concoction of spicy chickpeas (Chole) along with hot and puffy Bhature, which can be savoured at any street corner, especially in North India.

This dish is then sprinkled with Indian masalas and stuffed with freshly grated paneer (cottage cheese) and green chillies to enhance its spicy taste. The dish’s unprecedented popularity is therefore no surprise. A steaming hot plate is an absolute treat for any taste bud.

So as we speak of this popular dish, it’s understandable that we are not only sentimental about it, but also proud that it came from our land. But recently, the Chinese have become the wrath of our anger after doing what they do best – copying our beloved Chole Bhature and turning them into ‘Scallion Bubble Pancakes’. Yes, you heard that right! The feelings towards this staple food of India, goes out to each and every Indian after reading this shocking revelation.

After the £70 Zara Lungi fraud by the Chinese, they have irked the Indians after taking our desi idea to some fancy delicacy. This time the offender is Chinese chef Peter Chang, who has turned this desi food item into a videshi one with his own version.

This man is calling this desi dish to be ‘Scallion bubble pancakes’!

Chances are you won’t believe it, but it’s true!

We couldn’t understand what just happened, until we saw this YouTube video:

Popular Facebook food page Tastemade had shared a video (which was taken down following the outrage) wherein they showed a brand new dish called Bubble Pancake. This bubble pancake is to be served with a savoury curry.

Now everything was fine about this except for the fact that this is a goddamn Bhatura. The Maryland-based chef was duping his customers at his restaurant ‘Q by Peter Chang’. He faced a fury from many Indians after they discovered his fraud.

Giving him a poor rating on social media and venting out their anger, this is what they had to say:

Writing Facebook message to express her discontentment, one lady said,

Even Chinese knew there was something wrong!

The chef predictably was shamed for messing with our beloved Bhatura and he rightly deserved so.

This perfect dim sum starter is certainly not the yummy Indian ‘gravy’ we love. But guess people are just jealous!
