A taxi driver of Indian origin was beaten in Tasmania in a racist attack.
The driver, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, was attacked on Friday night around 10.30. The driver narrated the incident to the police while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to him, his taxi was hired by a couple. The girl in the backseat tried opening the door repeatedly and when the driver asked her not to do that as it could be fatal, the girl got angry. Once the couple got out of the taxi, they began to break the glasses of the vehicle. The boy also punched the driver on his head and began to beat him. The girl then exclaimed that the driver deserved this and that he is a “bloody Indian”.
The driver mentioned that while he was being beaten, he made a video of the entire incident. In no time, passers by gathered and saved the driver. The police was called and the injured driver was taken to the hospital.
The driver has accused the Australian police of not investigating properly. He also added that an eye witness has come forward who has given a video of the incident to the police.
