In the fourth encounter in three weeks, three Indian Army soldiers attained martyrdom after terrorists ambushed a convoy in Shopian on Thursday.

Reports quote a police official saying that the soldiers from 44 Rashtriya Rifles along with police were returning from a search operation at Kungnoo.
“While returning from Kungnoo, the CASO party was attacked by terrorists at Mulu Chitragam at about 2 am, resulting in injuries to six army personnel, including two officers, of whom three succumbed to their injuries,” the police said.

The woman who died was the wife of a resident, who was hit by a stray bullet during the cross fire.

The army convoy was attacked from two directions. The force retaliated but the terrorists escaped into the darkness. Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility.
Attacks on the army have been on the rise in Kashmir. Two army men were martyred on February 12 and three others injured in an encounter with terrorists at Frisal village of in Kulgam. Two days later, four army men, including Major Satish Dahiya, attained martyrdom in an encounter in Handwara.
On the same day, 11 soldiers, including a Major and a CRPF Commandant, were injured in north Kashmir. Two civilians were also killed in the encounters.
