The Indian Army, on December 6, released a statement confirming that the viral video showing ill treatment of some Army recruits at the hands of Army officers had happened in the past.

The Army said that the incident took place at a training centre but did not disclose its location.

In the video, some senior Army personnel are seen whipping recruits with sticks and belts, while one officer holds the head of each recruit between his legs.

The recruits are summoned one by one by the personnel.

In its statement, the Army said that the code was breached by the soldiers against whom “necessary disciplinary action” had been taken.

Army pointed out that measures to prevent such incidences from happening further have been taken.
