Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar on March 10 announced that the Income Tax department has developed a mobile app which would help people pay taxes and track refunds.
Further, he also added that the department is now considering issuing PAN cards on real time basis with the help of Aadhaar biometric.
“Income Tax department is considering issuing of Permanent Account Number (PAN) on a real time basis using Aadhaar’s e-KYC facility. The proposal is at an initial stage of consideration.”

With regards to the new I-T App Gangwar said that it has already been developed and that the mobile application has the functionality to not only pay taxes but track refunds as well.

There are currently more than 25 crore PAN card holders in India, but the government’s focus would we on new PAN card applicants, as estimates show that around 2.5 crore people apply for PAN cards every year.
Looking at this huge amount of applicants the ministry has integrated with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ portal for new PAN allotment and prescribed a turn-around-time of 4 hours after receipt of PAN application.
