The Narendra Modi-led BJP government has evicted a record number of overstaying illegal occupants from government accommodation.
There was a three fold increase in terms of the number of houses vacated under the Modi government.
Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo told Lok Sabha that 746 houses were vacated in 2015 under the Modi government. However, it was just 246 houses under Congress-led UPA government in 2013.
However, 1,207 houses are still under unauthorized occupation in Delhi.
During the last three years, a total of 1,531 houses were vacated under the provisions of Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, he said.
He also stated that while only 10 houses of higher type (Type VB to Type VIII) were vacated in 2013, it has increased to 69 in 2014 and 20 in 2015.
Former Home Minister Buta Singh and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Vir Bhadra Singh have moved the court against their eviction from government bungalows in Delhi.
One Type-VII accommodation is under the occupation of former Union Minister Jaswant Singh who is seriously ill.
