Students and administration at IIT-Kharagpur were in for a shock on Friday after a student was found hanging in his hostel room in the campus.
According to reports, Nidhin N, a 22-year-old from Kerala who was in his fourth year of aerospace engineering.
He was an occupant of the ground-floor room at Nehru Hall B Block.
The police said that Nidhin was used to getting up early in the morning to an alarm for studies. When on Friday morning the alarm didn’t stop ringing, other students got suspicious.
The hostel authorities then broke open one of the window panes and discovered Nidhin’s body hanging from the ceiling.
Later the police broke open the door to seize the body.
According to TOI, a suicide note was found in the room. It had the words, “Let me sleep.”
This is the second such incident at IIT-Kharagpur in two months. In March, the body of Sana Shreeraj, a third year student of electrical engineering, was found on the railway track near the campus.
According to college authorities mental depression drove 20-year-old Shreeraj from Tekkali of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh to suicide.
His father, however, alleged that Shreeraj’s classmates tortured him.
