World Famous Hijab-wearing Fencer Gets Her Own Barbie Doll, And It’s As Admirable As Her!

Published on 3 August, 2018 at 1:11 pm By

Over 59 years, the Barbie Doll has progressed  from traditional to more inspirational. Created by American businesswoman Ruth Handler, Barbie Doll has lived in almost every household as a fashion doll. Its latest doll, is first of a kind in history – after all, it’s inspired by a real life person and a famed female athlete. Ibtihaj Muhammad‘s barbie doll is inspired by the American Olympic gold medallist, who changed the face of Muslim sports people forever.

Duke graduate Ibtihaj Muhammad’s Barbie doll is inspirational just like her. Ibihaj made history by becoming the first U.S. athlete to wear a hijab during an Olympic competition.

During Rio 2016 Olympic Games, 32-year-old fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad and her team won the bronze medal in sabre fencing. The same year she was named one of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People.”

The Olympian has earned several accolades, including a national title in 2009. In 2012, she was named ‘Muslim Sportswoman of the Year’.

Just like her inspiration, the Barbie makers have made her into the famous doll — and it wears the traditional hijab worn by Muslim women!

In 2017, the barbie toy maker Mattel unveiled the Ibtihaj Muhammad Doll as part of Barbie’s “Shero” line — which makes diverse dolls inspired from honourable women.

The “Shero” line also includes other historical women, like artist Frida Kahlo, pilot Amelia Earhart, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and ballerina Misty Copeland.
