From fostering friendship and interaction to aiding the flow of information, social networking sites have done plenty of great things for our society.

Unfortunately, these sites have also become breeding grounds for online trolls and bullies, who contaminate the beauty of social media with their distasteful content.

Celebrities and public figures have become easy targets for internet trolls, but one woman who will not be bullied is former Bigg Boss star, Mandana Karimi.

Karimi isn’t too bothered with the negativity on social media, choosing instead to focus on the numerous good sides of the networking platforms.

“It (Social media) keeps me sane, more so than ever before because of the lockdown”, said the Iranian-born actress. “I mean, yes, I agree there are negative people on social media, but that’s there in life in general also”.

“I raise awareness on social media and I also get aware about a lot of issues. I find it empowering and helpful”.

True to form, Karimi has been doing plenty of empowering on social media lately. In one of her most recent Instagram updates, the 32-year-old shared an inspirational post on how she regained her discipline and fitness after letting herself go for a while and gaining some extra weight.

She challenged her 1.1 million Instagram followers to “be happy and stay real, make the best out of any situation and keep smiling”. Karimi is also very active on other social media platforms. She has just over 76,000 followers on Twitter and approximately 249,000 on Facebook.

She regularly shares pictures and videos about her lifestyle, which mainly revolves around modelling, fitness, food and of course, acting.

Karimi’s latest acting project is the web series, The Casino, which started airing in June on Zee5. She had been struggling to land any roles in the last three years, but she continued to work hard, develop her skills and seek opportunities until one finally arrived.

“I did not give-up, I started working on my craft. I took acting classes, messaged every director whom I knew, I gave many auditions. This is what I love to do so I will work hard until I achieve what I want,” she said.

Karimi was born in Tehran to an Iranian father and an Indian mother. She initially worked as an air hostess in Iran before turning to modelling. She moved to Mumbai in 2013 to pursue her acting career. Karimi famously featured in the popular reality TV show, Bigg Boss in 2015, finishing as second runner-up to Prince Narula and Rishabh Sinha.

She is making her digital debut in The Casino, which also stars Karanvir Bohra, Sudhanshu Pandey and Aindrita Ray.

The Casino is a Hindi Language thriller which attempts to leverage on the popularity of the film and gambling industries in India. Both industries have combined to great effect in the past, with movies like Teen Patti, Striker, Jannat and The Great Gambler standing out amongst previous Bollywood-casino cross-breeds.

Land-based casinos like the one in “The Casino” are banned in most parts of India, but their internet-based versions provide viable alternatives for Indian gamblers.

Online casino has been on the rise in the country in the last few years, and new ones are springing up all the time. Series like The Casino, with actresses like the gorgeous Karimi, will only fuel India’s growing love for casino games!

Karimi plays the character, “Rehana Chaudhari” in The Casino, and judging by some of her comments, she clearly enjoyed the role.

“I am hoping to get more work after The Casino. I want to do characters like Rehana that the audiences will remember for years”, she said.

Given her generally positive persona, hard work, undoubted talents and willingness to improve, it shouldn’t take too long before she lands another big role.
