In a shocking incident of hate crime, two Indians were shot at a bar in Kansas, US which has left one dead and two battling for their life.
According to NDTV reports, the two Indians are engineers from Hyderabad and were shot by man who has severed in the US Navy.
The two men have been identified as Srinivas Kuchibhotla, and Alok Madasani who were shot at around 7:15 p.m. on February 23.
The shooter, has been identified as 51 year-old Navy veteran Adam Purinton, who reportedly was drunk and thought the two Indian’s were from the middle east.
Purinton, before the shooting, was continuously shouting racial slurs at the men and when he was asked to stop by a bar staff, he yelled “get out of my country” and opened fire at the two engineers and the bar patron.
The shooting killed techie Srinivas Kuchibhotla on the way to the hospital, and injured Alok Madasani and bar patron Ian Grillot, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Purinton, meanwhile has been arrested and charged with murder.
Kuchibhotla was an aviation engineer from Hyderabad and was working at Olathe-based technology company called Garmin.
He had done his B Tech from Hyderabad’s Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 2005 and then his master’s from University of Texas.
He had joined Garmin as an aviation systems engineer in January 2014.
