Harsh Gupta, an outstanding shooter, a true sportsman, and an excellent student is the new pride of Himachal Pradesh. Exhibiting excellent skills in pistol shooting, 15-year old Harsh has won two gold medals for shooting championship held at the Himachal Pradesh State Olympics.
Organized by the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association, the event was held in Hamirpur from June 22 to June 25. Around 3000 sportsmen joined state governor, Acharya Devvrat, and Olympians and Arjuna awardee boxers Shiva Thapa and Manoj Kumar at the flag off ceremony in Shimla on June 17, 2017. Also present at the ceremony was Sumit Sangwan, Asian silver medalist boxer.
Over 60 contestants of different ages from all over the state participated in the shooting contest held at the Himachal Pradesh State Olympics.
Out of all the participants, Harsh Gupta, with highest overall score of 553 points, giving him a lead of 3 points, grabbed the gold medal in the 10m air pistol shooting (men). In another championship held among all the top contenders of shooting, including both boys and girls, Harsh again delivered a victorious performance and grabbed another gold medal to get named ‘Champion of Champions’.
Popular Bollywood star Suneil Shetty was present at the prize distribution ceremony and awarded the medals.
A student of Pine Grove School, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, Harsh has been taking intensive training in air pistol shooting for the past two years. His coaches, Tika Ram and Manish Giri, find him an excellent shooter and a dedicated learner. They opine that no one can stop him from becoming a national Olympic champion in a couple year’s time if he continues with same devotion.
