Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat has assured strict action against people who attacked BJP MP Tarun Vijay after he visited a temple in Chakrata yesterday along with a Dalit leader.

The mob of at least 2,000 people threw stones at Vijay and the Dalit leader Daulat Kunwar reportedly for visiting the temple where entrance of persons belonging to backward castes is prohibited. A few policemen were injured in the scuffle and two police vehicles were damaged.

Rawat said that nobody whatsoever can be stopped from going to a temple as God belongs to all.

The BJP MP condition is stable and is in ICU right now. His wife said the villagers attacked him with sticks and stones.

Further, stressing on the problem, Rawat said all religious leaders in the state should open the doors of their temples to people from all faith.

He further said that besides the guilty, those who were lax in taking any action from preventing the untoward incident would also not be spared.
