While tensions between India and Pakistan remain firm on the political front, on the artistic side, there is great mutual admiration and a desire to work with each other. Indian cinema is big in Pakistan, so over the years, filmmakers have organized Q&A sessions with Pakistani journalists, but a new movie is set to go a step further.

The upcoming movie ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ starring Abhay Deol, Diana Penty and Moomal Sheikh is likely to have a Pakistani premier (or a special screening) a couple of days before its actual premier.

Director Mudassar Aziz, who last directed the 2010 movie ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’, hinted at the possibility of a premiere in Pakistan along with the entire cast and crew. Actor Javed Sheikh revealed to ‘The Express Tribune’ that Aziz had visited Pakistan recently to iron out the details. Sheikh said:

“‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ is set to release on August 19 and the best thing about it is there are already plans to organise a premiere in Pakistan at least a day or two before the official release…A few years ago only Pakistani actors were working in Indian films but now Indian actors are also starring in our films, most notably stars like like Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah. Hopefully this will open the gates for joint productions and collaborations between both industries.”

Javed Sheikh appears in the movie along with his daughter Moomal, who makes her Bollywood debut with this movie. Javed also hinted at his upcoming movie ‘Wujood’ having an Indian actor starring in it. ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi’ also has Ali Fazal and Jimmy Shergill in pivotal roles.

Though the entire cast and crew hope for a premiere in Pakistan, relations between the two countries get tense every now and then, therefore, all depends on how things stand in August as the movie is set to release on 19 August, 2016.
