According to reports, gymnast Dipa Karmakar is set to return her BMW car that she received from former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in September this year.
The car was given to her by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar after she came fourth in Rio Olympics 2016 and became the first Indian to achieve such a feat.
Sachin though had presented Dipa with her car, it was gifted to her by Hyderabad Badminton Association (HBA) president V Chamundeswaranath.
While Dipa has refused to talk as to why she has taken this decision, according to her family the biggest reason for her to take this step is because she is finding it difficult to maintain such an expensive car in a small city like Agartala.
Dipa though herself is more worried about her upcoming exposure tour, where she is set to head out to Germany in November this year.
During this tour, she is to train and participate in the upcoming Challengers Cup, but at present is facing uncertainty with regards to her participation.
Reports suggest that India’s Gymnastics Federation has informed Dipa’s coach Bisweswar Nandy, that she will only be able to take part in the Challengers’ Cup unless a six-member Indian team can participate in the championship.
“According to the Federation, we must have to field at least three-member team. Otherwise it will not be possible for us to participate in the championship. And the Federation also has asked me to start preparatory camp as soon as possible.” – Bisweswar Nandy
While Nandy said that another student of his – Asmita Paul, is extremely promising and is likely to be called for the national camp, it has also been learnt that he does not want to include Dipa in the preparatory camp as she has not resumed her training fully yet.
