Guru Randhawa’s songs have been breaking the internet for quite some time now. But the singer’s recent achievement has taken one and all by a surprise. Surpassing 3 billion views on YouTube, Guru Randhawa has become the most viewed Indian singer on the digital platform. The singer-songwriter has made over 20 Punjabi songs so far and is best known for his numbers like ‘Lahore’, ‘High Rated Gabru’, ‘Ban Ja Tu Meri Rani’, ‘Suit Suit’ and ‘Patola’.
A creator of magical songs that have the power to grip the audience, Guru Randhawa is a 27-year young simple man who hails from the small town Nurpur in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
Guru Randhawa is extremely elated and grateful for his latest feat of becoming the most watched Indian singer on YouTube. In his recent interview to IANS, Randhawa said:
“I am thankful to everybody for their love and support. I feel it is for the first time in Indian history that an independent artist has acquired three billion views. I feel honored and blessed for all the support from listeners worldwide who have supported my music.”
The ‘Patola’ singer is not just a major YouTube sensation but a heartthrob among Instagram users as well with more than 5 million followers. Born as Gursharanjot Singh Randhawa, he gained the passion for music from television. But popularity did not come as a piece of cake to him. He started off with doing small shows in Gurdaspur and then moved to Delhi. Initially, he got paid only Rs 500 per show but his determination kept him going.
Bhushan Kumar, the chairman and managing director of T-Series has played a vital role in Guru’s success by bringing singles back to trend. Guru Randhawa’s career graph started rising in 2015 when T-Series signed him for ‘Patola’ that also featured rapper Bohemia.
After the success of ‘Patola’, his popularity increased immensely and he gave another song ‘Suit Suit’ for the movie ‘Hindi Medium’. And ever since then, there has been no looking back for him!
Besides making sure that his numbers are peppy and energetic, Guru is also very particular about maintaining distance from sexist and vulgar lyrics. He says:
“What’s the point of creating something which cannot be enjoyed by everyone anywhere? I don’t want to embarrass a family which is sitting together and watching videos of my songs!”
In 2017, he performed with Yami Gautam at the opening ceremony of the IPL. And this year, he did Dabangg Tour 2018 along with many noted celebrities of Bollywood such as Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan. Katrina Kaif has posted a video of Guru Randhawa and Manish Paul teaching her Punjabi. The video has gone insanely viral on the social media. Watch it below:
There is no doubt that Randhawa loves singing, but it is live shows that he yearns the most. In an interview, he said:
“When the audience resonates with my music and sings every single word from the song, the high of performing live is unmatched… The thrill, the love, the energy all makes it an unforgettable experience.”
His songs may make him look like a party-lover but he actually is not! In a complete contrast to his groovy songs, Guru Randhawa is moody and reserved. He might have sung party-numbers but in real life, he likes to party alone. He has a very small list of friends with whom he gets along well and loves to spend his time with.
Apart from a great voice, Guru Randhawa is also blessed with super-dapper looks but has no plans of getting into acting at the moment. In an interview to The Times of India, he said:
“I have featured in many videos, but that’s all I can do. I have got offers from many reputed production houses, but I have declined all offers. I don’t think I will be able to act, I am not talented in that area.”
Doesn’t that reflect his absolute modesty?
