These are the times when old age homes are overrun by the elderly who are ignored by their children and grandchildren. So what Saglana Salchak, a 4-year-old girl, did is beyond belief.
Saglana resides with her grandparents in the Republic of Tuva, a remote cattle-breeding outpost in Russia close to Mongolia.
When her grandmother lay dying, Saglana walked for six hours on a frozen river in -33 degree Celsius through a wolf-infested forest to seek help from a town five miles away.
Saglana had woken up early morning and found her grandmother motionless. She was then asked by her visually-impaired grandfather to go out and bring help from the nearest settlement.
The brave Saglana then walked miles in the cold forest which is home to many wolves.
Alas, she couldn’t save her grandmother. According to the doctors, Saglana’s grandmother suffered from heart attack and was dead.
The Guardian quotes the little girl saying, “I just walked, walked and got there.”
A local from the region told the media, “It’s surprising that wolves didn’t attack her. There’re loads of them here and they regularly attack cattle.”
Unfortunately, after the incident, Saglana suffered from hypothermia which led to a brief stay at the hospital.
The authorities are now issuing a criminal charge on the girl’s mother for abandoning the elderly and the child.
