Chris Gayle is one of the biggest names in the cricket world. This West Indian player has a huge fan following in India too as he is a regular face during the IPL matches.
Currently, playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), this player actually remained unsold during IPL 2018 auction. Previously, he was a member of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team and during an interview, he revealed something that startled the fans.
He alleged that RCB informed him that he will be retained but never got a second call from the management. Here’s what he said:
“It was disappointing from that end because they had called me. They wanted me in the team and I was told that I will be retained. But they never called back after that. So that gave me the impression that they didn’t want me and it’s fine. I think I had a wonderful CPL and BPL – where I scored two centuries for my side Rangpur Riders. The stats don’t lie: 21 centuries, most number of sixes. If that doesn’t put a stamp on brand Chris Gayle, I don’t know what will.”
He further added that his records speak for his excellence and there isn’t any need for him to prove the same. In his own words:
“There are always going to be doubters but at the same time, I didn’t have anything to prove. My records speak for themselves. Even though I was selected in the very last round of the auction, I wasn’t really worried about it Even if it was the end of it, there is life… a life beyond cricket, beyond the IPL. At some stage, you are going to walk away from the IPL and other forms of cricket.”
Gayle fans were quick enough to react and it also included those who loyally follow RCB. Many think it’s a mistake on part of the team to not retain this player. Here are some of the comments:
