The recent incident of a paramilitary vehicle of the CRPF running over three stone pelters in Nowhatta area of Jammu and Kashmir, sparked a new wave of controversy in the country. While the protesters were actually attacking the CRPF vehicle, the jawans inside it were trying to escape the area and ran it over three protesters, one of which died and two got injured. The video footage from the incident had invited mixed reactions from all over the country.

The attack coming at a time when the Indian Army has been observing ceasefire for Ramzan was a matter of shock for the country. While on one hand, the opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir condemned the ruling government and on the other hand, the people of India stood by their soldiers.

Now, what has kicked off another row in the country is registration of FIR against the CRPF. On June 2, 2018, the Jammu and Kashmir police registered FIR against CRPF driver for rash driving as the incident had led to death of a youth. This FIR was registered against Sections 279 and 337 of the RPC (Ranbir Penal Code).

The police has also booked unidentified stone pelters on charges of rioting and attempt to murder under Sections 307, 148, 149, 152, 336, and 427 of the RPC.

A number of people have expressed their anger for the CRPF jawan having booked for rash driving. One of the people who have expressed their resentment is cricketer Gautam Gambhir.
