Gautam Gambhir has announced to donate his 2017 IPL earnings to families of the martyrs of the Sukma Naxal attacks. He has expressed his desire to fund the education of children in the affected families. 25 fearless CRPF soldiers lost their lives in the attacks which took place on April 24, 2017. Gambhir expressed that he was deeply saddened after he saw visually disturbing pictures of the soldiers.

IPL team ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’ headed by Gautam Gambhir defeated ‘Delhi Daredevils’ yesterday in a tough match post which, Gambhir was chosen for the ‘man-of-the-match’ award. The cricketer played outstanding innings and then surprised everyone with his statements over donating his IPL earnings.
During the match, off 52 balls, Gambhir made a good score of 71 runs and was given credit for his well deserved efforts. In a statement, he explained, “Whatever I have earned till now and whatever awards (I earn later in the tournament), all the money goes to the CRPF jawans, who got murdered in Sukma. I think that I am a very proud Indian and I want to contribute and hopefully everyone can contribute. They give their lives for us, hopefully we can at least do this much.”
