Remember Gauri Sawant? She was recently a part of Vicks ad in India. The ad went viral because of all the good reasons. Gauri is a 37-year-old transgender activist.
Gauri was born and raised in a conservative family as Ganesh Suresh Sawant in Pune. At a very early age of 9, after her mother’s demise, Gauri realized that she is different from others. With the help of Humsafar Trust, Gauri underwent transition. Initially, it was a struggle for her but then she formed an NGO of her own called ‘Sakhi Char Chowghi’ in Malad, Mumbai.
As a part of her job she now promotes safe sex and also gives counseling to transgenders from Mumbai suburbs.
She has a dream to build a house for children of sex workers. For that she has plans to use her own land and believes that with right care and love, the lives of many children can be saved and shaped. Help Gauri build her own house.
