Thirty-seven-year-old Pankaj Chavda, who was an insurance agent in Gujarat, studied law to fight alleged rape charges levelled by his wife.
As reported by Times of India, Pankaj was acquitted of the rape charges by the Gujarat High Court, observing how the woman became a puppet in the hands of her relatives, who wanted to separate the couple.
After being fed up with the 9-year-long legal battle, Pankaj decided to fight his own case and has now filed a Rs.50 lakh defamation suit against his wife.
The reason for the same being defaming him, damaging his reputation and falsely framing him in an alleged rape case.
Pankaj and his 19-year-old neighbour got married in 2006 and ran away for a few weeks. Upon returning, Pankaj’s wife lodged an FIR against him and his friend Lokesh Sharma, who gave her tuitions.
She wove a story that Sharma first raped her and then Pankaj blackmailed her and forced her to marry him. But later, during trial, the Court refused to believe her.
Pankaj’s legal battle continues. Following the defamation notice, his wife has moved the Family Court, seeking maintenance.
