After nearly 25 years, Shimla and its surrounding areas received the season’ first snowfall, bringing cheers to thousands of tourists who had thronged the state capital on the occasion of Christmas. Likewise, the adjoining tourist resorts of Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda too had snowfall.
The minimum temperature dipped to 3.5 degrees in Shimla.
The snow filled Shimla brought joy to hundreds of the tourists visiting the area. Tourists were seen playing with snow balls and walking in snow and enjoying the first fall. Every nook and corner of Shimla was adorned with snow and added to the festivities among the tourists.
“We are enjoying the snowfall. We feel lucky that we witnessed it this time,” a tourist from Delhi said.
Tourism officials say every year thousands of tourists visit hill stations like Shimla to enjoy the beauty of snow. But this time the Christmas enchanted the visitors with stupendous white everywhere.
The snowfall and rainfall, which was eagerly awaited by farmers in the hills, have also ended the dry cold spell and are good for the apple and walnut crops.
