The JNU administration was in for a shock after a poster calling for the freedom for Kashmir and Palestine surfaced in the campus on Thursday.
The poster, which bore the name of Left-wing DSU, was seen on the wall of the School of Social Sciences’ new block.
“Freedom for Kashmir! Free Palestine! Right to self-determination long live,” the poster stated.
DSU, or Democratic Students Union, is the party to which Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya belong.
Both Khalid and Bhattacharya were charged with sedition for the protests held inside the campus on February 9 last year in which anti-India slogans were raised.
Reports say that such posters from the DSU are a normal feature on the campus.
Some professors are unhappy with such posters, which vitiate the atmosphere of the elite educational institution.
“On February 9 this year they failed to create any disturbance in JNU and so they targeted Delhi University. This poster is another attempt to destabilize JNU’s academic environment,” said Hariram Mishra, professor of Sanskrit, told PTI.
The poster had been removed by evening.
