27 Photos Of Centuries Old Stepwells That Show How Beautiful They Look If Maintained

Published on 8 September, 2015 at 9:22 pm By

India is very much known for its rich culture and heritage. People from all over the world come to admire this heritage and its history. Since childhood we are taught about India history; the heritage we got over the years. But it’s hard to imagine an entire category of architecture slipping off history’s grid, and yet that seems to be the case with India’s incomparable stepwells also known as baolis. Yes, you can find numerous number of centuries old water structures hiding in plain sight close to popular destinations such as Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi or Agra’s Taj Mahal.

But, now due to the growing water scarcity in India these forgotten stepwells are being re-evaluated for their ability to collect and store water.

Though Ministry Of Water Resources have decided to look after these centuries old constructions, there is still no confirmation on whether any action has been taken. The pictures below show the pathetic condition of some ignored stepwells.

No one is concerned about these historic baolis.
